Resumen: In this study, we present the design of an adjustable mecha- nism for external knee joint prostheses, with the aim of improving adap- tation to the user and approaching natural kinematics. To achieve this mechanism, some commercial prostheses were analyzed to understand their functioning and determine their kinematics based on the Instanta- neous Center of Rotation. From the different curves obtained for each prosthesis, a configuration of elements was proposed to approach the desired trajectories. With this base configuration, the knee joint was designed and simulated and a rapid prototype was made to validate its correct functioning. The results show that the proposed adjustable mech- anism can improve the adaptation of external knee prostheses to the user and approach natural kinematics.
