Resumen: Water suitability for irrigation of San Pablo River, in Los Rios Province was evaluated. For the study, eight points that constitute takings of water for agricultural irrigation were considered. Sampling was made in drought and humid periods. Water quality was defined in function of indicators proposed by FAO and specific indexes for the agricultural irrigation like effective salinity, potential salinity, adjusted sodium adsorption ratio, percent of possible sodium, percent of dissolved sodium and the Index of Langelier. The results indicate that, in the dry season, waters are not suitable for agriculture, however, in this period the hydric necessities of cultivations should be guaranteed with irrigation.

Palabras clave: Water suitability for irrigation, electric conductivity, salinity, sodium adsorption relation.
