Título: Effect of requirements specification using native language on external software quality

Resumen: In the contextof requirementsspecificationin GlobalSoftware Development,aspectssuch as differencesin culture,languageand scheduleaffect software development teams;however, we do not know the effect of these issues. Comparethe native languagere-quirementswith the foreignlanguagerequirementsconcerning externalquality. Weconducteda controlledexperimentof one‐factortwo treatmentswithin‐subjectswith 17experimentalsubjects. Wilcoxon test indicatesthat there is evidenceto reject the nullhypothesis (p‐v alue=0.008);there is a statisticallysignificantdifference.The externalqualityvalue obtainedwith native languagerequirementsis superiorto the externalqualityproducedwith the foreignlanguage.The effect size equalsan absolutevalue of 0.45,which correspondsto a mediumeffect.The languageused in the requirementsspecifi-cationinfluencesthe externalquality;using the native languagein the requirementsspecificationsignificantlyincreasesthe external quality. The resultobtainedin thisresearch shouldbe consideredto evaluatethe roles and Englishlanguageskills of GSDteam membersand their effect on external software quality. We also suggest consideringthe Englishlanguageskills of the experimentalsubjectsin the experimentallaboratoriessince languagecould influencethe resultsof the experiments.
