Resumen: Cerebral ischemic disease (ischemic stroke) is a medical emergency with high morbidity and mortality in the world population. In this sense, this research was carried out with the aim of determining the prevalence of ischemic stroke, the mortality rate in the ecuadorian population during the years 2014-2018, and the most common risk factors. For its demonstration, data obtained from the hospital discharge database of the Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censo (INEC) and information from various data platforms and scientific search engines were used. The results indicated during the study period were recorded in a total of 9158 cases of ischemic stroke, with a mortality rate of 0.1%, remaining at similar values every year. It is concluded that cerebral infarction (ischemic stroke) generates a non-negligible impact on the mortality of the population, with a higher incidence in males, over 61 years ofage, half-blood ethnicity, in the provinces of Guayas, Pichincha and Manabí; comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia and atrial fibrillation, and tobacco use, risk factors closely related to the development of ischemic stroke.
